July 2010 - Reducing our Carbon Footprint

Almond Precision Engineering recently participated in a training course run by the Carbon Trust aimed at assisting companies to measure and reduce their carbon footprint. As part of the programme the Carbon Trust also conducted a full review of our operations and highlighted some areas for improvement; several actions have already been completed with more on the drawing board. We were delighted to receive the assistance of the Carbon Trust, and in a happy set of circumstance we get to do our bit to save the planet and save money at the same time.

April 2010 - Medtec 2010 Birmingham 27th and 28th April

Almond Engineering exhibited at the Medtec exhibition for the first time this year. The exhibition was very interesting with many high quality visitors, although by all accounts less than in previous years. The mood was quite optimistic with most people we talked to reporting a much better start to this year than 2009, not much signs of a v shaped recover, but definitely evidence of the famous green shoots, if still a little wee. We met some very clever people with good projects and hope to win new customers out of the show, once again the strength of our design team seemed to stand us in good stead.

May 2010 - Scottish Technology Showcase

We have signed up to exhibit at the Scottish Technology Showcase in May this year. This looks to be a good event demonstrating some of the strengths of Scottish Industry and Academe.  Scotland has an amazing range of brilliant engineers and scientists achieving great things in the background, and any event that brings this to the fore must be a good thing.  We are looking forward to making some new contacts and catching up with some of the attendees who we know well.

October 2009
- Semicon

Willie Scott and Tom McNicol attended the annual Semicon exhibition held in Dresden for the first time this year. For many years Almond Engineering has manufactured spares and consumables for this market, as well as clean room equipment, and more recently shipping brackets for a variety of highly specialised equipment. Scottish companies were again well represented, further demonstrating that Scotland excels in this high tech arena. As always the Scottish Development International networking event (and whisky tasting!) was a big success; as well as making several new contacts it was a pleasure to meet so many old friends.

- Visit by West Lothian Executive Councillor Martin Day

As part of our 30th Anniversary celebrations Almond recently hosted a visit by West Lothian Executive Councillor Development & Transport Martyn Day and Business Gateway growth adviser Jim Henderson.

They enjoyed a full tour of the factory and met a number of our team, as well as seeing components manufactured as part of a large repeat order from an innovative Scottish Medical Device company.

Councillor Day commented that it was a pleasure to visit another West Lothian business going forward in these difficult times.
